Device Description:

​

Soil condition data test and monitoring is largely used in agricultural cultivation in fields and greenhouses, By long-term on-line monitoring of sandy soil, especially through monitoring soil conditions, this sensor provides data support for planting, irrigation and management, and provides empirical data for better quality crop cultivation. This sensor device is testing 3 critical parameters of soil: Electrical Conductivity, Volumetric Water Content and Temperature.

This sensor will work with PUTD IOT Technology’s Smart Agriculture Device to form site test appliance. By uploading data through wireless network, this combination will be further working with our cloud base IOT software platform(PUTD DSS) to provide the data view of above mentioned 3 critical parameters of soil.

This is the hardware platform which at one end interfaces with variety of industrial sensors for agriculture (Soil Sensor for this application) to collect field data and at the other end adopting one of radio connectivity systems to exchange the information with application software resides in data centre. Sensor description:

​

The 5TE enables users to measure the EC relating to the salts and fertilizers in the soil. EC Measurements require good contact between the stainless-steel electrodes on the sensor and the soil.

The 5TE determines VWC by measuring the dielectric constant of the media using capacitance/frequency domain technology. The sensor uses a 70 MHz frequency, which minimizes salinity and textural effects, making the 5TE accurate in most soils. The 5TE measures temperature with an onboard thermistor, and electrical conductivity using a stainless steel electrode array.

Installation

​

The 5TE’s small size makes it easy to install in the field and the greenhouse. This robust sensor should be pushed directly into undisturbed soil to ensure good accuracy

  • Salinity management by soil Electrical Conductivity (EC) and soil water content sensor data

    • Soil EC data can be used to represent the level of salinity (salt) thus help with the decision making for action such as irrigation etc

    • Soil which is lack of water will result in salty, proper irrigation should be done for risk mitigation 

    • Work in complement with multiple soil water content sensors,  water electrical conductivity sensor to form a more comprehensive salinity management solution

      • in which soil water content sensors monitor groundwater under the root zone, monitor leaching procedure by observation water flow down through different depths

      • Water EC data monitors the irrigation water quality which ensure the plant health and fruit quality.
